The famous and problematic Boeing 737 MAX can now fly commercially again after lifting the restriction by the FAA.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration – FAA today rescinded the order that halted Boeing's commercial operations 737-8 and 737-9. The move will allow airlines under FAA jurisdiction to take necessary steps to resume service and Boeing to begin making deliveries., although in the rest of the world the final decision will depend on each control entity such as EASA in Europe, AACC in China and others

«Nunca olvidaremos las vidas perdidas en los dos trágicos accidentes que llevaron a la decisión de suspender las operaciones», David Calhoun said., CEO of The Boeing Company. «Estos eventos y las lecciones que hemos aprendido como resultado han remodelado nuestra empresa y han centrado aún más nuestra atención en nuestros valores fundamentales de seguridad, calidad e integridad».

Throughout the last 20 months, Boeing has worked closely with airlines, providing them with detailed recommendations on long-term storage and ensuring their feedback was part of the effort to safely return the aircraft to service.

An Airworthiness Directive issued by the FAA details the requirements that must be met before U.S. carriers can resume service, including installation of software upgrades, performing cable separation modifications, conducting pilot training and conducting extensive maintenance activities that will ensure aircraft are ready for service.

In addition to the changes made to the aircraft and pilot training, Boeing has taken three important steps to strengthen its focus on safety and quality.

  • Organizational alignment: more of 50.000 engineers have been brought together into a single organization that includes a new product and service security unit, unifying security responsibilities across the company.
  • Cultural focus: Engineers have been further empowered to improve safety and quality. The company is identifying, diagnosing and solving problems with a higher level of transparency and immediacy.
  • Process improvements: by adopting next generation design processes, the company allows higher levels of initial quality.
