Boeing and Southwest Airlines today announced that the airline will continue to build its business around family 737 MAX with a new order 100 airplanes and 155 options in two models.
The agreement comes after a multi-year fleet assessment by Southwest and means that Boeing and their suppliers could build more than 600 new planes 737 MAX for the airline up to 2031.
Southwest had been exploring options to modernize the largest component of its fleet: the 737-700 that meets the airline's needs for a jetliner 140-150 seating. with the new deal, the airline reaffirmed to 737-7 as your preferred replacement and growth aircraft. The aircraft will complement the 737-8, that meets Southwest's needs for a model of 175 seating.
Both family members 737 MAX will reduce fuel use and carbon emissions by at least one 14% compared to the planes they replace, which will help improve operating costs and environmental performance. Southwest said the solution allows it to maintain the operational efficiency of a fully Boeing 737 to support your low-cost point-to-point route network.

The new purchase agreement brings Southwest's order book to 200 737-7 and 180 737-8, of which have already been delivered more than 30. Southwest will also have 270 options for either of the two models, bringing the airline's direct purchase commitment to more than 600 planes. The airline also plans planes 737 Additional MAX through third-party lessors.

As part of the agreement, Southwest will also expand the use of digital solutions from Boeing to support your fleet 737 MAX, including aircraft health management, the maintenance performance toolbox and digital navigation charting tools. Boeing will also provide system software updates and new wireless communications enabling equipment to support Southwest operations..
