Let's tour together the museum dedicated to the sea, air and space aircraft carrier Intrepid located in the city of New York.
if you are a AvGeek passionate about aviation like me and you have a scheduled trip to New York, I have a mandatory visit place that you cannot miss.
During a few days that I spent in this great city, In addition to visiting the typical tourist spots such as the Empire State, Rockefeller Center or the Statue of Liberty I could not leave without going to some of the different attractions that stand out the most for lovers of aviation and history.
The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space aircraft carrier museum
We are going to delve into this experience, but first it seems important to indicate that the strength of this museum is the military, so if you are not attracted to this topic and you are more focused on the civil, maybe you don't enjoy it so much, although there is an attraction that is very worthwhile.
Location
- Pier 86, W 46th St, New York, NY 10036
How to get?
- Surrendering car (They should look for nearby parking)
- In taxi (expensive)
- subway and bus (it was my choice, but take into account that there is not a very good connection and most of the cases apply a walk of 5 a 10 minutes)
Cost
I recommend paying for the CityPass service and you will have a discount on up to 3 attractions they can select according to the plan:
- Adults $33
- Children of 5 a 12 years $24
- old age $31
- simulators (these have an extra value of $10 by attraction).
Schedules
- The Intrepid is open daily (check the museum website as there are closures for holidays or private events) from 10:00 a 17:00 hours.
Getting to know the Intrepid Museum in New York
The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is dedicated to displaying the military history of the USA inside this aircraft carrier that is considered a national historic monument and has parallel attractions such as visiting the Concorde (it was closed when i went), Growler Submarine and more.

I always recommend arriving at the opening of the museums, so there are fewer people and you have space to take better photos, but it also depends on what you want to see, For this reason, making use of the map that they give you for free is key..
If you want to see more details, I share a video that I prepared, Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel as well.:
Follow the biosecurity and distancing measures in great detail, here all were respected to the letter.

They will save time if they buy the ticket in advance on the website, but you can also buy it at the windows, remember that in times of pandemic if the capacity is full, they will have to wait if they did not have the ticket reserved.

On my visit I went first to the aircraft carrier starting from the Hangar Deck, where there is a lot of history of the boat, planes, helicopters and simulation area.

I will not deny it, what I wanted to see the most was on the Flight Deck, where the largest number of aircraft on display are located, so I hurried to go up and start to see each of the planes in detail.

In this same Deck you can see the aircraft restoration area, the space zone and see the hand bridge of the aircraft carrier.

For those who like space, there is a space history pavilion featuring the Space Shuttle Enterprise, I'm not going to talk much about this today, but if you want to know more about this topic you can read this post about it Kennedy Space Center.

Something that I really liked was being able to enter the heart of the Intrepid and see what the command bridge and the technology of the time was like..

Without having it in the initial plans, but when he saw him he was forced to do it, Entering the Growler Submarine is highly recommended., How many times in your life can you be inside one that served during the Cold War?

This submarine had nuclear capacity and according to history there was no lack of opportunity for its crew to prepare for the imminent situation of launching, luckily for the whole planet, this was not necessary.

I could not close this visit without visiting the Concorde as the maximum point of pleasure AvGeek. This plane that flew for British Airways is in the museum and offers an incredible insight into the scale of engineering at that time., At least for those of us who couldn't see it fly, it's something very gratifying..

I hope you liked this visit to the Intrepid museum and if you have ever visited it, tell me in the comments what you think.

Thank you very much Jaime for your words.
I was there the 4 from December. A beautiful experience, especially the Concorde.
Too bad when I went, the Concorde was not open 🙁
Good Morning
I had the opportunity to go to that museum, it's excellent, there are even details about the pilots' ejection chair from combat planes
Super recomendable

JIMMY
thanks jimmy, it really is impossible not to go.
I would really like to go to see the museum, It looks very impressive but it may be for many more years. The truth is I love to travel but I haven't even been to the Galapagos, maybe in the future i will get it, As long as I start paying attention to my English classes. I really liked the post, I met many new planes, especially the Concorde, which for me is the most special plane in the museum.
You have to go to this museum!
excellent visit, A few years ago I was lucky enough to visit it, it is really impressive to see the size of the boat and to have an idea of the operations that were carried out, It should be noted that the Intrepid participated in the recovery of one of the Gemini capsules of the space program and even has a designated area for the representation of that. Greetings
What a good information Raúl! I wonder what one of the modern aircraft carriers will look like, sure bigger.
