Avianca announces reduction of program requirements LifeMiles at 2022 to access or maintain an Elite level.

This year, LifeMiles, frequent flyer program Avianca, is updated to allow more members to reach Elite level thanks to the reduction of the requirements to maintain their status. What's more, brings changes to the mileage accrual scheme, allowing you to earn miles according to the size of the ticket purchased.

“We want more Avianca customers to be part of the best miles accrual program in the region and enjoy the benefits that each Elite status offers. To achieve this we modified the qualification requirements for all levels, decreasing between 17 and the 41% the miles required for each level, if we compare it with 2019. Now it is easier to reach an Elite status and maintain it”, pointed out Mauricio Angulo, Chief Innovation Officer de LifeMiles.

Reduction of LifeMiles requirements

For the year 2022 are decreased by up to 41% the requirements to achieve and maintain Elite status, according to the following table:

Miles/ Status Red Plus Silver Gold Diamond
qualifying miles 6.500 11.500 23.500 40.000
Minimum miles flown with Avianca 5.200 9.200 18.800 32.000

The company also reported that members will now be able to achieve Elite status faster and maintain it since a 25% of the miles accumulated with purchases with LifeMiles credit cards qualify for Elite Status*, up to a certain maximum at each level.

Changes in the way you earn miles

From 1 February and in line with the tariff scheme “Fly to your Measure” that Avianca implemented last year, LifeMiles members will accumulate their miles according to the size of the ticket they buy for their trip. With this new format, customers can receive up to 7 qualifying miles for every dollar invested in Avianca tickets, as follows:

  • size XS: does not accumulate miles
  • Sizes: accumulates 3 qualifying miles per dollar purchased
  • Sizes M and XL: accumulates 5 qualifying miles per dollar purchased
  • Sizes L and XXL: accumulate 7 qualifying miles per dollar purchased.

Elite members will also earn additional non-qualifying bonus miles, that go between the 20 and the 80%, according to your level.

The airline also recalled that LifeMiles members earn and redeem miles on all flights of all member airlines of Star Alliance with what they can get to about 1300 destinations around the world.

  1. It seems to me that it is the least they can do due to the great drop in service and quality, it is good for travelers but it means that the level is going down compared to the good times of the airline, I hope that in the future they will return to what they were. Good post
