Avianca presented its report Sustainability 2023, in which the airline reinforces its increasingly firm commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Last year, more of 32 millions of customers flew with the airline in the 147 routes to 76 destinations of 25 countries with which he ended 2023. According to the data of Avianca, around a 16% of those passengers flew for the first time last year.

The airline has made accessibility a flag, eliminating barriers for people with different abilities and conditions through its “Avianca Accessible” program. An example of this is the alliance with the National Institute for the Blind (INCI) to implement braille at key points on airplanes.

In line with its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, Avianca has launched the program “The sky is theirs”, that will scholarship 20 women to study a commercial pilot career.

Avianca is committed to sustainability

The results of greater access and connectivity have been achieved with a reduction in carbon emissions per passenger transported: a 26% less in 2023 what in 2019 and a reduction in absolute emissions by 21%, in the same period. Added to other environmental initiatives such as the compensation of nearly 700.000 tons of CO2, supporting projects in Colombia through the purchase of carbon credits; others 87,5 tons of CO2 offset by clients and collaborators, through the CHOOOSE platform; the implementation of 24 fuel saving initiatives, that prevented the issuance of 71.256 tons of CO2; and the transportation of 11.843 kg of waste from Galapagos Islands.

Through its “Alliances for Development” program, Avianca has closed the year with 18 social allies in Colombia, The Savior and Ecuador, benefiting more than 14.000 people in vulnerable communities.

The airline has transported more than 11.600 Kg of humanitarian aid with Deprisa, bringing medical assistance and other essential products to those who need it most.

Avianca has renewed its alliance with Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), extending it to Colombia and Ecuador. What's more, has presented a new livery that highlights Colombia's biodiversity to raise awareness about the need to protect the country's wild species.

The Sustainability Report 2023 from Avianca reflects the commitment of the airline and the airline industry in general to sustainable development, access to air transportation for all and the social well-being of the communities where they operate.
