The Quito airport is already connected by two regular airlines that cover weekly flights to the Punta Cana International Airport.
The Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport strengthens its network of international destinations by connecting, for the first time, the Ecuadorian capital with Punta Cana, on Dominican Republic on a regular basis. This new route, operated by airlines Avianca and Arajet, offers travelers weekly frequencies that facilitate tourism and business in both destinations, significantly expanding connectivity options for those flying to and from Quito.
Two regular airlines fly to Punta Cana
The competition got very good on flights between Ecuador and Dominican Republic, since there are now two scheduled airlines operating between the Marshal Sucre and Punta Cana, which are also added to the two weekly frequencies under charter modality that also operate with an Ecuadorian airline Aeroregional.
Avianca Ecuador operates this route with Airbus A320 aircraft and Airbus A320neo with capacity for 180 passengers in a single class from 27 October, while Arajet he does it from 29 October with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 which has a capacity of 174 passengers. Both airlines began flights in October, offering two convenient schedules to travelers, with the following itineraries:
Arajet flights
The Dominican airline stopped flying to Quito and Guayaquil from Santo Domingo, capital of Dominican Republic and replaced those frequencies operating from Punta Cana, operating with two weekly flights at these times:
| Punta Cana – Quito – Punta Cana | |||
| Quito | Flight | Hour | Day |
| Arrival | DM6704 | 21:53 | Tuesday |
| Departure | DM6705 | 0:33 | Wednesday |
| Arrival | DM6704 | 21:25 | Saturday |
| Departure | DM6705 | 0:05 | Sunday |
further, Arajet also started two weekly frequencies between Punta Cana and Guayaquil, totally independent route Quito.
Avianca flights
On the side of Avianca Ecuador, This is a totally new route that replaces the suspended route to Orlando. Like Arajet, The airline will operate two initial weekly frequencies with these schedules:

With frequencies basically the same day, I strongly agree with the route between Quito and Cancun where Viva and Avianca were competing similarly and both airlines ended up closing the route.. I hope this time is different and that one of the two airlines changes their itinerary..
Let's see how the route goes. This Punta Cana has more natural demand due to the tourist destination and because it does not need a visa., so there should be more demand, so the competition will be very good.
Ecuador and the DR are very well connected by several airlines. Excellent tourism and business opportunities.
So dear Carl, Let's hope that demand continues to grow for all airlines.
