The Irish airline Aer Lingus officially received his first Airbus A321XLR, being the second airline in the world to receive it.

Aer Lingus, has received the first of its six aircraft A321XLR. The airline becomes the second in the world to operate the A321XLR, as well as the second of the International Airlines Group (IAG).

The plane, equipped with CFM LEAP-1A engines, took off from the Airbus production plant in Hamburg (Germany) the 18 December bound for Aer Lingus' base at Dublin Airport (Ireland).

The A321XLR Aer Lingus is configured with 184 seating in a two-class layout, with 16 fully reclining seats in business class and 168 in Economy class. It is the first aircraft in the Aer Lingus fleet to offer passengers and cabin crew the enhanced comfort of the Airbus Airspace cabin., which features XL upper compartments with a 60 % more storage space compared to previous generation aircraft. What's more, all passengers have access to in-seat connectivity, while the latest lighting system enhances the overall passenger experience.

The aircraft will allow Aer Lingus to operate new routes beyond the east coast of USA and Canada, with destinations including Nashville and Indianapolis.

The A321XLR It is the next evolutionary step of the family A320neo, that responds to market needs for longer range and payload, creating even more value for airlines. It will offer an unprecedented extra-long range of up to 4.700 nautical miles, a 15 % more range than A321LR and fuel consumption per seat 30 % lower compared to competing aircraft of the previous generation, as well as reduced NOx and noise emissions. Until now, Airbus has achieved more than 500 orders for this model.

Like all airplanes Airbus, The A321XLR aircraft can now operate with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (PURE). Airbus aims for its aircraft to be capable of using up to 100 % from PURE for 2030.
