The British airline Virgin Atlantic announced that it is planning to open new destinations towards Latin America, Sao Paulo is the first destination.

Belonging to the well-known character Richard Branson, the airline announced a few weeks ago that it is in the process of a new international growth, this time focused on Latin America.

Starting the 29 march 2020 with Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo with a daily flight from London Heathrow Airport, Virgin Atlantic will take its first step in the region. Taking advantage of the giant Brazilian market as a gateway, where it will operate on shared code with GOAL a 37 domestic destinations, the airline will operate the route 11 hours and 55 minutes of flight with the modern Boeing 787.

More destinations in Latin America

After the announcement of São Paulo, Virgin preliminarily outlined, its further plans for the region with its fleet of 50 aircraft and 21 more on order.

Thanks to the expansion work being carried out at Heathrow Airport, where a third runway is also included, the airline will be able to develop a great growth plan in the coming years, where it aims to reach 84 new UK destinations, Europe and the rest of the world.

A) Yes, in these 84 new destinations that could be more, the airline determined the importance as the second largest airline in the United Kingdom, grow in Latin America.

The first potential destinations in the region would be:

  • São Paulo (starts in march 2020).

No exact dates of operation for possible new destinations, Panama in an airline statement, would be the next logical step given its geographical and economic importance, even more so since we do not have a direct flight with the United Kingdom.

Other destinations could also join this growth, for example Ecuador. After a meeting of the President of Ecuador with Richard Branson, The possibility of carrying out the corresponding feasibility and connectivity studies was left open., as stated by the government, although due to the size of this market, we could see the possibility with connections to Bogotá, Lima, Panama.

We will continue to update as these or other destinations in the region are specified..
