Today we analyze what is happening in one of the most important markets in Latin America, we will refer to flights between Mexico and Colombia.

Post written by Alex Torres and Nicolas Larenas

In an airline market trying to recover from the pandemic, we have seen dozens of airlines close, thousands of jobs lost, but also a much faster recovery than expected.

In this context of recovery, some airlines have surprised with announcements of new routes, more flights and increase in offer due to the complications of some companies in the pandemic context.

Flights between Mexico and Colombia

During the year 2021, the flights between Mexico and Colombia have been seen rising with announcements of new frequencies, but more prominent still, the entry of new competing airlines.

This growing and important air market is experiencing a supply boom, that is driven by the migratory flow, tourism and commercial exchange that has caused the eyes of the world to focus attention on these countries.

¿Qué motivó este crecimiento? Both governments understood that the travel restriction do not serve and restrict the economic recovery of their countries. Mexico It has no limitations for travelers and while other countries maintain restriction measures, Mexico and Colombia stand out and open up business and growth opportunities.

We are going to analyze the air situation of each of the airlines that operate between both countries, where 3 they are Colombian and 3 they are mexican.

Aeromexico

For the main airline in Mexico, we conducted an interview where we reviewed several of the current aspects of your past and present operation, these are the answers:

¿A partir de qué año Aeroméxico está volando a Colombia?

  • Aeroméxico began operations in Colombia in July 2010, with the inauguration of its route between Mexico City and Bogotá. What's more, began operations in Medellín in March of 2015.
  • Currently, Aeroméxico has the following frequencies:
    • 10 weekly flights to Bogota.
    • 7 weekly flights to Medellin.
  • The sum of the monthly offer of seats is 29 thousand seats between Mexico and Colombia.

¿Cuántos pasajeros han sido transportados desde entonces?

  • Aeroméxico has transported more than 2 million passengers from 2010 until september 2021 between Mexico and Colombia. Before the pandemic, Aeroméxico has transported more than 350 thousand passengers on average annually.

¿Cuáles son sus perspectivas post pandemia?

  • We look forward to continuing growth in international passenger transport as many regions continue to open their borders and welcome more tourists and business travelers..
  • As an example, South American and European countries where Aeroméxico operates began receiving fully vaccinated Mexican tourists a few months ago, which has been key in the recovery of supply and demand.

¿Algún dato adicional sobre la operación de Aeroméxico?

  • Due to the increase in the demand for passenger transportation on our routes to Colombia, and in particular to Bogota, we have increased the number of seats available by introducing our Boeing aircraft 787 Dreamliner to regular operation, which has allowed us to have one of the most modern fleets in the world in this destination.

Avianca
