The alliance was created in 1999 with the aim of increasing passenger connectivity and flexibility and rewarding frequent travelers with special benefits and privileges. American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas are its founding members. Alaska Airlines is also in the alliance, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Morocco, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines, 26 affiliated airlines and a oneworld® connect partner, Fiji Airways. Oman Air will join the alliance in 2024 and will become its 14th full member

To celebrate this special date, uniformed staff of oneworld® member airlines will wear unique insignia, designed with the new logo 25 anniversary.
