We review in this interview with José Luis Aguilar Executive Director of the CORPAC the news of Cuenca Airport, its internationalization, improvements and future new airport in Tarqui.
At Mariscal La Mar Airport during the 2023 they mobilized 483.987 passengers experiencing growth in 24.52% compared to the previous year that were recorded 388.672 passengers. Regarding cargo, it was transported 20.65 TM, while the number of flights through this airport were recorded 4.613 movements.
With this context and with the highest growth of the airports in the Ecuador from last year, This terminal is preparing to continue recovering its air traffic, that in his best year there 2014/2015 (if I'm not mistaken) mobilized more than 600 thousand passengers and that goal is getting closer and closer.
Cuenca: present, international and new airport
It is still far away for this terminal to reach more than 1 million passengers, but without any doubt, there is a lot of potential to grow. Thanks to the increasing number of frequencies operating, two domestic destinations and three domestic airlines serving the third largest airport in the country, growth and improvement plans are necessary.
Given the importance of this airport, that despite its limitations that a high and short runway generates, the projections are positive, also driven by the increase in tourism, both national and international, who see this city as a safe place., beautiful and with many things to do for tourists who visit it.
