We review the different problems that the passenger terminal of the airport currently has. Manta International Airport, that continue to accumulate.
The Manta Airport has a brand new terminal inaugurated for the second time on 5 from December to 2022, a new infrastructure, modern, comfortable and above all, much better than the previous terminal destroyed in the earthquake of 2016 and that the provisional that operated after of that event.
This new terminal allowed the increase of domestic frequencies and also, the arrival at the end, of international flights Copa Airlines from Panama City. A nice and functional work, but it has many problems, some new, others are several months ago, but at least Jet A1 fuel supply has already been solved.
Problems at Manta Airport
With the aim of creating knowledge in society in general about these problems, so that they can be reviewed and fixed to avoid any problem that affects aeronautical development at this airport, listed below the different problems found in Manta.
For instance, before going into details, the secondary radar, surveillance system and en route, and the runway anemometer 24 are out of service, what compromises the operation. Too, there are limitations in the instrument landing system: The ILS of the runway 24 operates only for ground verifications, which restricts the weather conditions in which landings can be made.
This is not everything, the Manta International Airport (DISTRICT) is currently experiencing several operational issues due to pending maintenance or failures. These inconveniences are affecting various airport systems, including:
- Systema SSR (Secondary Surveillance Radar): Temporarily out of service.
- The inoperability of the SSR systems has led to the operation being carried out by instrumental and estimated procedures..
- Anemometer: Out of service on the track 24.
- ILS (Instrument Landing System) for the track 24: Operating for ground verification only, pending flight verification.
- Hours of operation are no longer 24 hours: since and 27 October to 4 of November (can be extended) The Airport will operate only between 06:00 am y 10:00 pm.
Until now, regular flights have not been affected, but it does generate a difficulty in the operation of the airlines that will not be able to count on the Manta Airport as alternate, during idle hours, in its operations as was currently being considered and in case of bad weather, The operation could be compromised as its equipment is degraded.
