new record of flower export from the Quito airport It is 2022 for Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day It is the first of the peak export seasons for the main export product by air in the Ecuador, how are the flowers and this year was no exception to break a new record.

Total, 20.112 tons of flowers were sent to the world in the 23 days this year's season lasted 2022 from Quito, demonstrating a great performance of the entire logistics chain of the airport: cargo consolidation in the Tabacarcen logistics center, palletizing at the export cargo terminal and finally boarding in each of the aircraft that arrived at the cargo platform of the Quito airport.

“This achievement is all the more meritorious because we were still in the middle of the battle with the omicron variant and, despite all the adversities that this strain brought, we achieved this great milestone”, expressed Ramón Miró, President and CEO of Corporación Quiport.

The volume exported in this high season is the highest historically achieved in the Quito airport in Tababela since its opening in February 2013, surpassing the 19.177 tons reached in 2020, the second best year of exports by Valentine's Day.

It should be noted that the performance of air cargo in Quito has been registering sustained growth since the start of operations of the airport in the parish of Tababela. In the year 2021, the total air cargo in the Mariscal Sucre International Airport exceeded the historical record in terms of annual volume transported, with 272.7 thousand metric tons including exports, imports and domestic cargo. The load performance in 2021 exceeded the record 2019, second best year, in a 15.8%; in that year the total volume was 235.5 thousand metric tons.

The cargo operation of the Mariscal Sucre airport motivated, inclusive, to those responsible for the Juan Santamaría Airport in San José, Costa Rica to send a delegation to Quito the 10 February to learn more about the air cargo management model in order to take best practices and implement them at your airport.

Efficiency in cargo handling and infrastructure have placed the Mariscal Sucre International Airport as one of the most important cargo terminals in Latin America.
