Today we will know the story of Lorena Pillajo, one of the first aeronautical mechanics in Ecuador, currently working on Avianca Ecuador.

Over time, The airline industry has been a space cataloged mainly for men as it encompasses professions where female participation is generally limited. Fortunately, the presence of women in this industry has been increasing, and there are more and more candidates to become agents of change capable of narrowing the gender gap.

On the occasion of commemorating the International Women's Day, Avianca has the initiative #MiViaje,Mivida as a way of highlighting some of the dozens of stories of the professionals who, with their daily work, make possible the transfer of thousands of people daily.

Lorraine Pillajo, aeronautical mechanics

One of them is Lorena Pillajo, Aeronautical Mechanic of Avianca Ecuador. Lorena's history in the sector begins at a very young age when she became interested in military aviation thanks to her father. For many years, his effort and constant preparation in the aeronautics helped make today one of the 2 women who belong to the Quito base who are mechanics of the airline. Lorraine leads 8 years working for Avianca Ecuador, since May of 2015. The road was not easy, but thanks to the support of his family, your colleagues and the company, has managed to overcome every obstacle. Hoy, is focused on demonstrating the great potential it has within a space traditionally led by men.

¨Junto a Avianca, my career in aviation has been growing. Las experiencias brindadas por la compañía han sido de gran ayuda para adquirir el conocimiento necesario para mi desempeño actual¨ comentó.

Currently, Avianca has more than 5.000 women on your payroll, where more than 3.000 have operating charges and a 49% makes decisions leading areas and processes of the airline in different countries. According to studies carried out in countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and in some non-member countries, the increase in the participation of women en la fuerza de trabajo —o una reducción de la diferencia entre la participación de mujeres y hombres en la fuerza laboral— produce un crecimiento económico más rápido.
