Why do you see a kind of smoke or steam coming out of the inside of the planes when we board? There's nothing to worry about, I'll explain why this phenomenon occurs.. Foto YouTube video
A few days ago a follower asked me why this is, what he described as smoke inside the planes, on some occasions while we are addressing, I thought it was an excellent question and it is worth clarifying..
Welcome to another space of aviation curiosities that we like to share with readers like the triangle in the passenger cabin, ice on the windows, deadliest day of aviation, why are there numbers on the wings, to drink or not to drink coffee during the flight, los chevrons, hooks on the wings and many others… we start
Steam in the passenger cabin
First of all you should know that there is nothing to worry about, It is not smoke generated by some failure or fire. It's really water vapor, just like the one you see when you breathe through your mouth on a cold day and you can see it very clearly.
Here you can see a video I made inside a plane to better appreciate this phenomenon.:
Steam escaping from the inside of airplanes is a relatively common phenomenon., which can scare some passengers who don't know you. Nevertheless, there is nothing to worry about, since it is completely normal.
This steam that you see in the airplane cabin is actually condensed water, which is formed when the air conditioning is turned on and the weather outside is very hot / wet. Air conditioning on the plane takes air from outside and cools it to create a comfortable environment for us.. When the air gets cold, The water vapor it contains condenses in the form of small water droplets, that can be seen coming out of the vents above your seat.
The vapor seen inside the plane is completely safe and does not pose any risk to passengers.. Nevertheless, It is important that passengers know that this is a normal phenomenon and that it is not smoke. (although sometimes you could smell a smell like gasoline or something similar.).
When do you see steam inside the plane??
Vapor on the inside of the plane is most likely to be seen in the following cases:
- When the plane is on the ground and the air conditioning is on to cool the cabin.
- When the plane is taking off or landing, since the air conditioning is turned on to cool the cabin.
How long does steam last inside the plane??
The steam inside the plane usually disappears within a few minutes. Nevertheless, if the air conditioning is on for a long period, steam can persist for longer.
What to do if you see steam inside the plane?
If you see steam in the airplane cabin, don't worry. It is a normal phenomenon and does not represent any safety risk..
Do airplanes expel steam when they fly??
Since we're talking about steam, It is a good time to talk briefly about the «famosos chemtrails«, which really again are just steam.
What you see on airplanes flying very high is steam coming out of the engines. This is because engines expel exhaust gases that contain water vapor.. When water vapor comes into contact with cold outside air, condenses into small water droplets, which can be seen as a white trail behind the plane.
