The airline Avianca started flights, after 20 years of absence, on the direct route between the cities of Bogota and Paris. Photo Paris Airport

Avianca marked a historic milestone with the restart of its direct flights between Bogota and Paris, a route that is reopened after two decades to strengthen connectivity between Latin America and Europe. The first flight took off today from Bogotá El Dorado Airport bound for Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, marking the beginning of a new era of cultural and commercial exchange between both regions.

Avianca returned to Paris

The airline will initially operate three weekly frequencies, increasing to five from 15 of July. This new route expands the offer of Avianca a 75 destinations in more than 25 countries, connecting customers from the Americas to Europe through Bogota.

All flights will be operated by modern aircraft Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Business Class passengers will enjoy the Avianca Insignia experience, what includes:

  • Exclusive menus created by chef Álvaro Clavijo, recognized by The World's 50 Best.
  • Collectible amenity kits designed by Mola Sasa, in collaboration with the Gunadule indigenous community.
  • Southern Lotus Products.

The new route is expected to generate a greater flow of tourists between Colombia and France, boosting the economy of both countries. France is already the second European country with the most arrivals to Colombia, and last year the numbers increased by 24,5%. Avianca will also be the official airline that will transport the Colombian athletes, Ecuadorians and Salvadorans to the Paris Olympic Games 2024.

The new route will also benefit the cargo sector, with a capacity of more than 900 tons per week to and from Europe. Avianca Cargo currently connects to more than 23 countries of Latin America with four destinations in Europe: Madrid, Barcelona, London and now Paris. The main export products from Latin America are perishable, like flowers and fruits, while luxury brands arrive from Europe, pharmaceuticals and general cargo.
