The airline Aeromexico will not return Guayaquil as one of its regular international destinations after requesting the elimination of this route from its operating permit.

Last 25 august 2020, before the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Ecuador, The airline began the process to permanently eliminate the following route from its operating permit.:
- MEXICO CITY – GUAYAQUIL – MEXICO CITY with up to 7 weekly frequencies.
This request, which was approved on 12 October 2020 by the country's aeronautical authority and put an end to the airline's fleeting passage through the Jose Joaquin de Olmedo Airport, which, as we will remember, began with three weekly frequencies. 1 May 2019, but it operated for a very short period of time.
After the inauguration in May of last year, in what was the second destination in Ecuador after fly to Quito from the 2013, Aeroméxico flew to Guayaquil only until 2 October 2019 and at that time it was learned that the airline's fleet availability was affected given the crisis of the Boeing 737 MAX, which forced at the time to prioritize its fleet in other already developed destinations, so this connection was suspended until the end of September 2020, but now the route will not return within the worst crisis in the history of world aviation.
With that suspension in 2019, gave way to the arrival of Interjet with flights from Cancun and Mexico City to Guayaquil, but which so far have not been restarted and it is not known exactly when this airline would do so., which would leave it as the only operator of direct flights between these destinations.
For now, we will have to wait for Interjet or that in the future, with a better outlook for the airline industry, Aeroméxico is once again encouraged to fly to the “Pearl of the Pacific”.

I highly doubt that Interjet will resume many international flights in this situation.. I don't think they will return to Colombia in a short period of time., Ecuador and Peru.
