The airline Air Canada Cargo transported a huge IMAX screen to Quito from Toronto in one of his Boeing 767 freighters.

Many of us are in awe of the entertainment on huge IMAX screens.. But, Have you ever wondered how they get to the movies?

Okay, the story behind how they move is just as amazing and Air Canada Cargo worked with OEC Canada, a global freight forwarder, to play a leading role in a recent performance.

Yes OK Air Canada Cargo haul some pretty big items with your freighters Boeing 767, sending an IMAX screen of Toronto a Quito in November tested Air Canada Cargo aircraft and equipment. The box of 13.4 meters long and 800 kilograms that the screen held was one of the largest items that Air Canada Cargo has placed on the 767.

The Air Canada Cargo team worked with OEC to develop the creative solutions needed for the box that houses the IMAX screen to fit inside the 767.

“We had to think outside the box because this was something we had never done before and, despite some initial thoughts of 'what did we get ourselves into', everyone on the team accepted the challenge and was excited to solve this puzzle. We felt it would be a real feather in our cap.", dijo Mamun Ansari, Air Canada Cargo cargo operations engineering manager.

Airlifting one of our giant screens is not a common occurrence for an IMAX installation., but the early release of 'Avatar: The Way of Water’ by James Cameron in Quito it was certainly a good reason to do it, Mark Welton said, President, IMAX theaters.

Air Canada Cargo I had never transported something so long in the 767, which meant the team literally had to write the manual on how to properly and safely ship the display.

That task fell to Ansari, who oversaw the development of the engineering plans for this unique shipment. It took days to put together and included building a mockup of the box using ABS piping to ensure a proof of concept was developed to ensure everything worked as planned.. That planning also involved working closely with Air Canada Cargo's safety and procedures team., who scrutinized every step of the meticulous plan to ensure it was safe for both employees and cargo.

The plan involved the use of two chargers, placed at an inclined angle to the 767, that would simultaneously lift the box, while a team of up to 20 Air Canada Cargo employees helped maneuver the box into position inside the main deck. After several hours of methodical movements, the box was in its final resting place and secured for its flight to Quito.

Once there, The team of Quito did an equally impressive job downloading the screen, with his own plan that he would use three chargers to get the screen out of the 767 in a safe way.

“This was a total team effort and everyone at Air Canada Cargo is really proud of it.. There was a lot of excitement surrounding this challenging shipment, but all the teams rose to the occasion and executed the plan”, dijo Mamun Ansari.
