On holidays in Ecuador, buying air tickets will be cheaper. how much will be reduced? I explain it to you in this new installment.
The news about reduced fares in Ecuador they keep coming and steps are taken, some bigger than others, but all with the aim of regaining competitiveness, attract more airlines and more travelers leaving or arriving in the country filling the flights.
One of these positive changes was the reduction of the Eco Delta al 5% of the airline fare from the next 1 June and now a new incentive will be present in air tickets in the country.
On holidays buying tickets will be cheaper
This was reported by the Internal Revenue Service of the Ecuador – SRI on their social networks, comprar airfare will be cheaper thanks to a new decision of the government institution, it will be cheaper every time it is a holiday.
As we know, currently air tickets in Ecuador are engraved with 12% which is charged on the airline's net fare, without counting Taxes and fees.
This means for example that, if a ticket the airline charges $100, we will have to add $12, reaching a total of $112 plus fees, additional taxes and surcharges.
Now, with Resolution No.. NAC-DGERCGC23-00000005 and with effective entry into force on 15 February 2023, the air tickets that are purchased in Ecuador will enter the reduction of 4 VAT points that all tourist activity registered in Ecuador has during holidays according to decree of the President of the Republic of 31 of January of 2022 in favor of natural persons or companies, national or foreign, up to a maximum of twelve days a year during holidays or weekends, sean unified or divided; either nationally or regionally.
¿Cuánto bajará?
As we saw in the previous case and with the VAT in 8% instead of 12%, the price of the example would go from $112 a $108, a reduction of $4 Dollars, to which would be added taxes and other items.
Naked eye, the difference is minimal, but the effect will be greater in higher fares such as a flight to Europe:
- Tarifa neta: $800
- IVA 12%: $96
- IVA 8%: $64
What would be a saving of $32 dollars versus buying with normal VAT.

- Saturday 18, domingo 19, Monday 20 and tuesday 21 February 2023; days corresponding to the carnival holiday;
- Friday 07, Saturday 08 and Sunday 09 april 2023, days corresponding to the Easter holiday;
- Thursday 02, Friday 03, Saturday 04 and Sunday 05 November 2023, days corresponding to the holiday for the day of the deceased and Independence of Cuenca.
It's interesting news, with perhaps little effect, but without a doubt it opens the way to my proposal from several years ago: have a VAT 0% or other differentiated value only for the air tickets.
