"As we look ahead to the next decade, American will have a steady flow of new aircraft along with a balanced level of capital investment, which will allow us to expand our network and meet our shareholders".

Measured Narrowbody Fleet Growth

Aircraft orders support measured growth American in the next decade and soften the delivery schedule in the coming years. Taking into account these requests, American expects to stay within previously announced capacity and capital spending forecasts.

During the last decade, the airplanes A321 and A321neo have taken American customers through USA and to short-haul international destinations. American remains the world's largest operator of A320 family aircraft.

“The continued investment in the A321neo is a testament to the unprecedented value for the world’s most versatile and capable narrowbody aircraft.”, said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales of Commercial Air Airbus. “For almost two decades, American Airlines has used its A320 family of aircraft, some of which have been produced in Mobile, Alabama, to grow its national and international short-haul network and provide an exceptional experience to its passengers and crews”.

American is planning for the future with the new order of 737 MAX 10 and is awaiting its corresponding certification. The airline currently operates the 737 MAX 8 and the incorporation of 737 MAX 10 will allow American continue to improve your fleet and provide more flexibility across your network.

“We deeply appreciate American Airlines' trust in Boeing and the family 737 MAX. The selection of 737-10 by American will provide even greater efficiency, uniformity and flexibility for your global network and operations”, said Stan Deal., President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Our team at Boeing is committed to fulfilling this new order and supporting American's strategic growth with one of the largest and most modern fleets in the industry.".

Improved regional fleet

American focuses on adding larger, dual-class regional aircraft to its fleet, which will continue to drive connectivity from smaller markets to the rest of the airline's global network. The airline expects to retire all of its single-class regional aircraft from 50 seats by the end of the decade and will continue to serve small and medium markets with larger regional aircraft.

Two-class regional jets with premium seating are expected, High-speed satellite Wi-Fi and in-seat power make up the entire regional fleet of American once deliveries of the Embraer E175 are completed. The new plane E175 will be operated by American's wholly owned regional airlines.

«The E175 is truly the foundation of the United States aviation network, since it connects all corners of the country», Arjan Meijer said, CEO de Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Being one of the most successful aircraft programs in the world, the E175, was updated with a series of modifications that improved fuel consumption by a 6.5%. This represents the largest order of E175 never done and we thank American your continued confidence in our products and collaborators”.
