We were part of one of the first direct flights between Quito and Saint Joseph on Costa Rica, which is the most recent route Avianca on Ecuador.

Today I will share with you the experience I had flying on the last inaugurated route (or reopened after several years) by Avianca Come in Ecuador and Costa Rican.

as i told you, I did not check-in at the Avianca counters that are located in Zone D of international departures of the Quito airport, so my travel documents and health requirements were checked directly at the boarding gate, which are the following:

• Minimum valid passport 6 months of validity:
  • Visa to enter Costa Rica or,
  • Valid visa for the United States is also valid as a document.
• Regarding the sanitary requirements, it is requested:
  • Covid-19 vaccination card or certificate.
  • To enter Costa Rica all the requirements were lifted, but keep your certificate handy just in case.

Upon arrival in Costa Rica there is no type of health control other than the respective normal migration process..

This aircraft has not yet gone through the reconfiguration process with the new Avianca chairs, so in the meantime we could use, possibly for one of the last times, the original seats that Avianca Business Class offers.

This Airbus A319 is configured to 120 passengers with 12 seats in Business and 108 in Economy with its traditional leather look, but no individual entertainment screens.

The flight takes off from Quito at 14:35 hours operating on mondays, Wednesday and Saturday, this day we take off at 14:48, but landing within the itinerary.

Avianca's food menu is changing, for the next few weeks the airline will start a food sales system for its flights. Those passengers who want to eat something must pay for this service, so meanwhile the airline is offering a differentiated service so that passengers can rate the service and say whether they like it or not.

Costa Rica is in a time zone with one hour less than Ecuador, so the landing is estimated for the 15:50 hours, although it is a quiet flight in general, since the route passes through the tropical Pacific convergence zone, more than one turbulence could be felt, but rest assured that the pilots and aircraft are prepared to minimize this experience and fly as calm as possible.
