Avianca search again for flights between Ecuador and Argentina, this time you have requested the route Quito – Buenos Aires, but operated by Avianca Costa Rica.
Looking for a way to overcome the limitation of the bilateral agreement between Ecuador and Argentina, in which there are no more frequencies available for Ecuadorian companies, Avianca through its subsidiary Costa Rica has applied for permission to operate these flights.
Being an extension of the current route Saint Joseph – Quito which currently operates with three weekly frequencies, the Costa Rican subsidiary has made an important request before the Ecuadorian authority.
Avianca requests Quito flights – Buenos Aires
Being the second time that Avianca requests to cover flights between Ecuador and Argentina (request rejected due to lack of frequencies in the bilateral agreement), on this occasion and thanks to the current agreements between Costa Rica, Argentina and Ecuador, The opportunity has been opened to return to having direct flights between the two countries.
Specifically, the airline has requested before the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Ecuador – DGAC the following route and frequencies:
- Saint Joseph (Costa Rica) – Quito – Buenos Aires – Quito – Saint Joseph (Costa Rica) with up 8 weekly frequencies.
The flights, to materialize, would be operated with Airbus A319 or A320 aircraft from the Costa Rican subsidiary.
When do the flights start?
As always I tell you every time an airline requests a certain route or frequencies, this action is more than anything an intention to operate a certain route in the future.
Taking into account previous publications on routes of Avianca, of approving these flights by Ecuador and Argentina, we could see a start of flights in the coming months, if commercially and financially the airline will determine it.
Finally, was able to know extra officially that the opening of the route is estimated for November of this year, subject to government approvals. I will update.
