The European Aviation Safety Agency issued the directive requiring the inspection of all engines Rolls-Royce Trent XWB97 that are equipped on the Airbus A350-1000. RR's photo
(With data thanks to Flight Radar 24)
EASA has issued a airworthiness directive emergency requiring inspection of all Rolls-Royce Trent XWB97 engines following an in-flight incident with a Cathay Pacific A350-1000 2 of September. After a contained fire and an ordered in-flight shutdown of the affected engine, Ground inspections revealed a damaged fuel manifold main fuel hose. It is that fuel hose for which EASA has now ordered inspections throughout the world fleet.
Airbus A350-1000 under review
First we must indicate, before fans of Airbus y Boeing they fight, that this situation is independent of the aircraft manufacturer, since it is attributed to the problem that made the engines that are RR, so we should go there.
EASA requires inspections of the main fuel manifold hose on all Rolls-Royce Trent XWB97 engines in service. The XWB97 exclusively powers the Airbus A350-1000. El Rolls-Royce Trent XWB84, that powers the A350-900 fleet, is not affected by this emergency airworthiness directive. EASA says its investigation into the root cause of the damaged hose is ongoing.
Airworthiness Directive
The agency requires all engines to complete inspections within the 30 days after the effective date of the EAD, what is he 9 of September. Engines in two subgroups must complete inspections before.
- Inside 3 days (before the 12 of September): Engines that have accumulated 18 500 engine hours or more since new and have had 2 or more previous visits to the workshop (Hospital, Check & Repair, Refurbishment o Overhaul) or engines that have accumulated 2 300 engine cycles or more from new and that have had 2 or more previous visits to the workshop (Hospital, Check & Repair, Refurbishment o Overhaul).
- Inside 7 days (before the 16 of September): Engines that are not in the Group 1, who have had a previous visit to the workshop (Hospital, Check & Repair, Refurbishment o Overhaul).
