KLM takes delivery of its first A321neo
The "neo" means "new engine option": The planes are equipped with more efficient engines that emit less CO2 than their predecessors. Measured per ton-kilometer of passenger, the A321neo is about a 21% more fuel efficient than Boeing 737 that replaces. What's more, the plane reduces the acoustic impact, halving your noise footprint and causing less inconvenience to residents.
The passengers of the A321neo You will enjoy greater comfort thanks to wider seats, larger tables and more spacious luggage compartments. Each seat is equipped with a USB-C port and a holder for a mobile phone or tablet. The plane also offers more comfort for the crew, with a wider aisle and easy-to-open luggage compartments. The interior has been designed to enhance the experience KLM, with more recognizable details and ambient lighting that adapts to each stage of the journey.
The A321neo will begin operating services to Copenhagen, Berlin and Stockholm in mid-September, followed by Paris, Prague and Vienna. KLM will receive three more A321neo aircraft this year. With this new series of aircraft, KLM continues its tradition of giving its planes unique names. Throughout the last 104 years, different themes have been used, from names of members of the royal family to bridges, aviation pioneers and national parks. CEO Marjan Rintel said: "This time, employees were allowed KLM choose the theme. 'Butterflies’ emerged as the winning song, which fits perfectly with the transformation we are undertaking with the new fleet. The names of the first four A321neo aircraft will be Swallowtail (Queen's page), Peach Blossom (Blackberry butterfly), Common Brimstone (Lemon butterfly) y Clouded Magpie (Porseleinvlinder)».
KLM will invest seven billion euros in its fleet renewal program in the coming years, which represents a significant portion of your total investment portfolio. On European routes, KLM will replace your old Boeing 737 with Airbus aircraft A320neo and A321neo. On KLM Cityhopper, the new E2 models will join the Embraer aircraft 175 and 190. For intercontinental flights, KLM will add five new Boeing 787-10, followed by Airbus A350, that will replace the old ones 777 and A330.
Finally, KLM has ordered four A350F for your cargo division to replace the 747 load.
