Avianca presented its fifth aircraft retro, this time paying tribute to the airline ecuadorian Aerogal in a Airbus A320neo.

Avianca presented the fifth plane in the retro collection with which the airline commemorates the origin and history of Latin American aviation and which this time displays the image that AeroGal -today Avianca Ecuador– looked since the year 2008. It's about a Airbus A320neo, with registration N776AV (He came in 2018) that stands out in its tail the iconic iguana of Galapagos, on a blue background with flying frigates.

Earlier the airline also unveiled vintage models of TACA, Lacsa, Avianca and Aviateca.

The history of AeroGal

Before moving on, I invite you to enjoy a new Aero Report where I show you more details and information about the retro plane in honor of AeroGal on YouTube:

Aerogal is an Ecuadorian airline that was founded in 1985 by businessman Carlos Serrano Lusetti, initially operating with two Curtis C-46 and Douglas C-54, and later incorporated two Dornier D28 aircraft to expand the service focused on the air transport of cargo and passengers within the country and Galapagos.

Years later, the airline consolidated its position in the market with three Fokker Fairchild F-27 for the oil segment in The Coca and Sour Lake, gaining acceptance and the resources to incorporate its first and only Boeing 727-200 that would operate.

On 2002, Aerogal began to expand by incorporating its first Boeing 737-200 to fly to Baltra and later establishing routes to destinations in Colombia and Peru. On 2005, the airline incorporated its first larger aircraft such as the Boeing 757 and later in the 2009 Boeing 767 for the route between Guayaquil and New York, all the latter as the first "flirtations" with Avianca.

On 2010, the purchase of Aerogal by Avianca – TACA, which became the majority shareholding of the company.

One year later, the company became the largest airline in the Ecuador in number of aircraft, by having 14 Boeing aircraft and 3 Dornier 328. Which were later replaced by seven A319 that arrived from the former Mexicana de Aviación and thus unifying the fleet only in planes. Airbus.

On 2014, the company changed its name to Avianca Ecuador, as part of the integration of Aerogal into the airline Avianca, arriving the first plane with the painting of this in April of 2015 on the Airbus A319 HC-CKN.

The trade name and radio called Aerogal end up disappearing on 17 July 2018, thus concluding the integration of the companies and closing 33 years of history of a brand that represented the Galapagos Islands throughout the region.

Today, Avianca Ecuador operates flights to more than 6 destinations in Ecuador and offers international connections to 14 destinations in Latin America, North America plus connections to Europe and through the Avianca network.

the painting process

At Avianca MRO, at José María Córdova International Airport, the airline carried out the process of paint which required the work of 12 specialized technicians in aircraft painting who relied on the painting of 2008, that had already been applied years ago in these same facilities in the AeroGal planes that were transferred to the Ecuadorian airline at that time.

I was able to be exclusively inside the MRO during the final phase of painting.

After some more 4 days of work and more than 15 gallons of paint special for airplanes, which ended with the application of a clear coat for a better finish, Avianca's retro plane in honor of Aerogal is about to enter service.

As additional information, for the paint to dry completely requires 120 hours, once this time has elapsed, the plane will be able to pass to its new operator, Avianca Ecuador to cover national and international destinations with a capacity to 180 passengers and consuming 20% less fuel per seat than previous versions of the Airbus A320.

This plane that will be based in Ecuador, It is expected to arrive in the country for the month of May, prior to the start of flights between Quito and New York.

  1. How beautiful to be able to see that tail again, for me it is one of the best and most striking liveries in the world of aviation.

  2. The flag was sold through the purchase figure of the Ecuadorian company to foreigners to convert it into avianca but what they really bought was the routes of the national company and therefore the rights to the flag of Ecuador sponsored by the DAC
